  • Booked students will be contacted via email or phone as soon as possible.

The Studio

  • The yoga studio is not wheelchair accessible.

  • We do our best to ensure it is scent-free, but this cannot be guaranteed.

  • Participants must be able to navigate stairs without assistance to access the studio and must be able to get down to and up from the floor without assistance (except for Chair Yoga classes).

  • Yoga mats, blankets, bolsters, belts, blocks, eye pillows, etc., are provided at no cost (in-person classes only).

Before the Class

  • Plan to arrive 10-15 minutes early for every class, in-person or online, so you can prepare for class calmly and settle in slowly. It’s also a lovely opportunity to visit with the teacher (Jeannine) and your fellow yoga practitioners before the class begins.

  • Avoid eating for 2-3 hours before class. Yoga is best practiced on an empty stomach. If you need to, about 1 hour before the class, eat a light and easily digestible snack.

  • Drink water about 1 hour before your yoga practice to ensure you are well-hydrated. Drinking water during class is discouraged since this dampens the internal fire created during yoga practice. For this reason, water bottles are generally not permitted in the practice space.

In-person Classes

  • Classes begin on time, and to ensure everyone’s safety, the door will remain locked once the class has started. Latecomers will NOT be allowed entry.

  • Please observe good personal hygiene, ensuring your clothes and body are odour-free.

  • Avoid perfumes, colognes, fragrances or other scented items (including scented laundry products) so you are scent-free.

  • Wearing on-wrist electronic devices during yoga, including fitness trackers, is highly discouraged.

  • Please DO NOT attend class if you have ANY signs or symptoms of COVID-19 or other illnesses such as colds or the flu.

  • Wear comfortable, lightweight, stretchy, layered clothing that allows your body to move freely.

  • A gentle yoga practice or complete rest is suggested if you are menstruating. Inform the teacher if you are pregnant.

Once you Arrive at the Class (Online or In Person)

  • Remove your shoes and socks. Yoga is usually practiced with bare feet.

  • Turn your cell phone and other electronic devices off (or set to silent mode) before the yoga practice begins.

  • Remove your on-wrist electronic device, including fitness trackers. These devices are highly discouraged during yoga due to their distracting nature for the user and the teacher.

  • For your safety, chewing gum is discouraged.

  • If you have injuries, physical limitations or concerns, please speak with the teacher (Jeannine) before class begins.

  • For in-person classes:

    • Studio 71 Yoga provides yoga mats and various props and accessories to enhance your practice, such as bolsters, blankets, blocks, yoga belts, facecloths and eye pillows.

    • For many practitioners, their yoga mat is a safe, sacred place. For this reason, please avoid stepping on the yoga mats (except the one you are using).

  • If you’re attending live, online classes, you’ll find reading about Zoom Tips/Yoga Props helpful.

During the Class

  • Follow the teacher’s cues and guidance, but always listen to and respect the wisdom of your body.

  • You can take a restful pose whenever you need to and rejoin the practice when ready.

  • Explore pose variations and adaptations and notice what feels most supportive and safe for you on any day.

  • Ask the teacher questions if something needs clarification or feels wrong.

  • Occasionally, in addition to giving verbal cues, the teacher may offer to assist you with certain poses during in-person classes.

  • At Studio 71 Yoga, I will first clearly communicate my intention. Remember, however, that you have agency over your body and yoga practice. It’s okay to say, “No, thank you,” if a hands-on approach is not for you at any time.

  • Take ownership of your yoga practice and accept responsibility for your comfort and safety.

After the Class (in the Studio)

  • Please clean up your immediate area and return props and accessories to the storage areas.

  • The teacher will clean and sanitize the yoga mats after each class.

  • Take all your belongings with you—double-check to ensure you have everything before leaving.

CONFIDENTIALITY—Sharing Circles and Electronic Recordings

As a yoga teacher, I (Jeannine Roy) facilitate sharing circles. A sharing circle is a sacred space that offers refuge from daily pressures.

  • Sharing circles create an inclusive space where people listen to each other without judgement and feel free to express who they are and how they feel without fear of consequences.

  • Integral to this sacred space is an agreement of confidentiality – what is shared remains in the circle. Therefore, unless you have express consent, you are NOT PERMITTED to discuss what you learned during a ‘sharing circle’ with anyone outside that circle.

  • In addition, for reasons of confidentiality, live-streamed online classes/workshops/courses are NOT RECORDED.

  • You DO NOT have permission to record any classes/sessions.

Remember

  • Listen to and honour the wisdom of your body.

  • Ask the teacher if you have questions or concerns about your yoga practice.

  • Enjoy your practice.

  • Be compassionate, patient and kind.

  • Practice gratitude both on and off the mat.

  • Consider making yoga an investment in yourself that is non-negotiable.

  • Practice equanimity—accept, with ease and grace, the things you cannot change.

  • Share your joy with others.
