Studio 71 Yoga is a home-based studio. Boutique-style classes are small and intimate, limited to 6-8 students. Yoga mats as well as props and accessories are provided for your convenience at no extra cost!
Occasionally classes may be offered at a larger studio to accommodate students who enjoy a more expansive group experience. Please note that students are required to bring a yoga mat to these other locations.
The following is a description of available classes:
Yin & Restore yoga
This class blends two styles of yoga: Yin Yoga and Restorative Yoga. This is a perfect class for anyone wanting to relax deeply. A very slow and meditative sequence of postures will be taught involving long holds that tap into the connective tissue and fascia of the lower body, increasing flexibility while releasing tension and stress. The class will conclude with one or two restorative poses, achieving stillness of body and mind as you ease into the supports cradling you in the shape of a yoga pose. All are welcome.
Vinyasa Flow Yoga
Vinyasa Flow is a blend of yoga styles and traditions. This ashtanga-inspired class will gradually build on sequences of asanas (postures) linking breath with movement. You will enjoy a gentle yet energetic flow that will bring about calmness of the mind, leading to a sense of well-being. Be prepared to slow down at times to explore more deeply various aspects of the practice. This class is for all levels.
Restorative yoga is a therapeutic style of yoga. After the anxiety and strains of a busy day this is the perfect way to unwind in a welcoming and intimate meditative setting. In this gentle yoga practice all postures are fully supported with the aid blankets, bolsters, blocks and other props to gently open the body and release tension. You will relax into the shape of various poses without exerting any physical effort to stay there. All are welcome. See Events & Workshops for upcoming Relax & Renew® Restorative Yoga.
Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga
Ashtanga Vinyasa is a traditional system of yoga popularized in the West by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. The three pillars of this style of yoga will be taught: posture, breath, and gazing point. Students will practice fundamental asanas of the Primary Series. Classes will include sun salutations, standing and seated postures, an introduction to back bending, and postures of the closing sequence. Students should have experience with Vinyasa Flow yoga prior to attending this class.
From time to time Studio 71 Yoga offers Karma Yoga classes. Karma yoga is considered a form of selfless service (seva in Sanskrit) and is sometimes defined as the yoga of action. Karma yoga classes are offered at various yoga studios as a way to raise money for a specific charity or a meaningful cause. If you have that inner tug to help others and make a difference, attending a karma yoga class is one way of assisting you in meeting that goal. Karma classes at Studio 71 Yoga are donation-based and typically proceeds go to The Stephen Lewis Foundation Grandmothers Campaign but funds are also raised for other great causes. Everyone is welcome! See Events & Workshops for more information.
Jeannine is also a City of Winnipeg Program Leader. She teaches weekly yoga classes at various venues throughout the city.
